“As Mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality.”
– George Washington
COVID-19 stinks. Not only has it killed over 800,000 people in the U.S., infected nearly 53 million Americans, and cost over 40.0 million their jobs. It has also isolated us in our homes and kept us away from our friends and family. Overall, its pretty much a drag.
For us, its also kept Ellen and I off the road so we can’t explore all the truly amazing places around the world.
I’m sad to say that on top of all this, a police brutality, and murder incident in Minnesota has thrown the country into a raging fire of hate, anger, mistrust, and divisiveness that may alter the way we live (which I hope becomes a positive development). My thoughts and prayers to the family of George Floyd, and the too many to name people of color destroyed by hate and fear.
We’ll get back out there on the road as soon as we can, but I hate thinking about bad health potentials and our advancing ages that may limit us in the future. Fortunately, we have an effective vaccine, if we can convince everyone to get it. But, worse is the fact that this is a world-wide problem and the borders to most countries though open, may close again. Especially, to Americans who live in the most plague-infected nation in the world. Hmmm, how the hell did that happen.
Some are convinced this is not real, well I beg to differ as we lost my elderly father to Covid on March 31, 2021. So, I’ve been happy to volunteer with the Medical Reserve Corps several days a week at the Alexandria Health Department, and hopefully I’m helping our community in a small way.
Ellen and I were fortunate to spend most of 2019 on the road, so we had returned before the Corona fire consumed the world.
We are anxious to start our trip of a lifetime. part 2. Well, at least that’s the plan. We left town, not knowing when we’d return, and we’d never done long-term travel before. Our first excursion began in January 2019, return date September 2019.
We’ve added a new members to the family (Austin, Hadley) and now we’ll set sail for new shores in 2020, 2021 ….. well, perhaps 2022. We’ll put our thoughts pictures and whatever else strikes our fancy on this blog. I promise this blog is not going to be polished enough to be considered a travel site, just think of it as an electronic journal of our journey. Welcome aboard, come along for the ride.
I’ll post what we find, and what we learn. Believe me, we’ve learned a lot on the way, both what to do and what not to do. It’s quite a show, and if you are curious about the places we’ve been, what we enjoyed, what we’d skip, and things we wished we had done, jump to the bogs page and scan the posts. We call them as we see them, so if we really enjoy a location, we’ll shout it our. If we are disappointed with a visit, I have no shame in encouraging others to skip a destination. It’s my bias, and I’ll do as I want. Isn’t that what you want from travel reports? The real deal, not fake news just to put money in a vendor’s pocket? I’ve broken the blog down by category, so you can skip to the section of interest. Of course, I didn’t make it too easy for you because I didn’t name the categories Greece, Egypt, England, Croatia, etc. But, you’ll figure it out.
The opinions are mine. I have few filters, and that’s the way I like it. In the interim, I might post anything that I find interesting going on right here in the U.S.A. Read on, and enjoy.
