“I have taken roads that I wished I had not traveled on. And I’m traveling on some pretty exciting ones, too.”
-Paul Newman
Go-Date: Day 50, Wednesday. March 13
Lesson Learned: Sometimes you just know when its time to leave. We booked 2 weeks in Chania, and by day 10 we knew we’d already seen what we came here to see. When you need to leave, leave.
Rainy Day
We’d been discussing what to do next. When we woke up on Wednesday morning and it was raining, and you can tell it had been raining all night we tossed out half of our ideas for daily activities. It wasn’t all that cold (10 C about 50 F) but it was windy and really wet. Not only that, it was going to be the same for two days. That’s it, we are done, its time to hit the road instead of being cooped up in the apartment.
We sent in notice we were leaving, picked a place to go, found a hotel, packed up the car and were heading east out of Chania by 10:30.
So where were we going? We’d just spent 11 days on the west coast, so we headed east. East to Agio Nikolaos. This town, of only 10,000 people is one of the most visited in Crete, and all of the Greek islands. I understand, its beautiful. We had originally planned to go there, but didn’t like the selection of apartments to rent. Since now, we are only planning to be there for 3 nights and 2 days, we picked a hotel right on the water in old town. It’s costing a whopping $50 bucks a night, which is good, because we are going to have to eat 3 nights in Chania.
Oh, well like I said in my last post…Lesson Learned is don’t book a single place for too long, you may want to move on down the road. Here we go. Off to AG. Nikolaos.
