My formula for living is quite simple. I get up in the morning and I go to bed at night. In between, I occupy myself as best I can.

Go-Date: Day 26, Sunday, Feb. 17

Lessons Learned: Sometimes picking a road with no destination works out well. Today, we took a flyer down the coastal road to Nea Kios, Myloi, Kiveri and all the way down to Astros. This was a hidden gem that everyone should see. We loved Astros.  If you don’t take a chance, you’ll miss out.

We’ve been sticking close to home lately. No major day trips. We’ve only been picking things we’ve seen along the road and curious places we see on the map. Sunday saw us head south along the coast. Once out of the Nafplion harbor we find where the mountains meet the sea revealing marvelous vistas.

The water here is a greenish, bluish, marvelous shade of azure that I’ve never seen in the coastal waters of America. It is so inviting to make you want to dip your toes in the surf or dive right in…..even if it is February. The further south we went the more beautiful the coast became until we finally pulled into a seaside resort called Astro for lunch. We didn’t want to leave.

Its off season and half the businesses were closed and the streets were populated sparsely by Greeks getting out of Athens to sun themselves in the low-hanging sky. Its amazing how difficult it is to look west in the afternoon because of the position of the sun. Never during the day did it climb high into the sky. None-the-less the winds were missing, clouds hard to find and the temperature a comfortable 17 or 63 F degrees.

We found a café next to the beach, and had a delightful lunch served by a Greek Australian lady with an amazing accent. The cook was a Kiwi and her daughter an energetic Greek more interested in her fairy tale cartoon book than a couple of over-the-hill explorers. It was a terrific way to begin a new week.
